Hello World!
FLL Australian National Championships is just 2 more sleeps away. How exciting! We hope you are as ready as we are.
As we pointed out at the very beginning, FLL is an ongoing journey for our team, and once we set off, we never cease. You may be curious about our past, present and future, so, let me give you an overview.
Hello World 1.0 kicked off as soon as 2023-24 FIRST LEGO League MASTERPIECE Season teaser video launched on 23rd April 2023. Some people wondered why we started so early, especially when the FLL official resources wouldn’t come out until August…Well, it is because we have been learning, particularly, learning from our past mistakes. Looking back, our first endeavour in FLL began in September 2022, when we were a purely rookie team with no Lego Spike kit or materials. Not surprisingly, we underwent ‘awkward and speechless’ moments during judging session. However, the biggest takeaway for us from FLL Season 2022 is Gracious Professionalism, in which high-quality work is encouraged, and teamwork spirit and mutual respect are promoted. Therefore, we decided to prepare and plan early for FLL Season 2023 to leave enough time to research and brainstorm innovative ideas in terms of technology and art.
Amazingly, we received award for Core Values and advanced to Australian National Championships after Macquarie Regional. The commendations didn’t stop our progression but motivated us to go further, and this is how we sailed off with Hello World 2.0 since late October. Within one month between “Regional” and “National”, we got rich inspirations from First Nations people, especially from their ingenious artworks. Our research, design and creation ranged from team visits to Art Gallery, attending Aboriginal Live Concert, learning about biography and masterpieces of famous Aboriginal artists, creating pixel art from their artworks manually as well as in Python, etc. Again, our FLL journey never ends.
Furthermore, we are eager to lift the Masterpieces from our Aboriginal artists onto the global stage and share with the world. We cherish what we have achieved so far, and we even have a plan from Australian National Championships onwards. This plan motivates us to push forward with Hello World 3.0. Our team is trying to list down 100 wishes in Blog #100 for FLL World Festival which will be hosted in Houston next April, and our wish-list is filling up quickly! We strongly believe that this couple of months between “National” and “World” will allow us to elevate our Engineering Design Process to a more advanced level.
This is NOT going to be the end of our story. If we are lucky enough to be granted an entry ticket to FLL World Festival in Houston, we are going to celebrate Aboriginal Masterpieces on a global stage, to learn from and share with many splendid experts and teams around the globe, and to bring back our precious experiences to support more rookie teams in Australia. We sincerely hope that, by sharing and learning, we grow up with more FLL teams nationally and internationally! This is exactly where Hello World 4.0 will take off — from FLL World Festival onwards.
Our FLL journey will never end.
