Hello World! Many new teams starting First Lego League will have many questions so we have decided to write them all down, so you and your team can make sure you are competition ready!

Q: Apart from building the robot, what else do I need to prepare for the competition?

A: You will also need an innovation project presentation which you will present to the judge. You can also have an engineering notebook, where you document everything, really, relating to your robot.

Q: What is an innovation project?

A: An innovation project is an idea or concept your team has to come up with that solves a real-world problem. Your team has to first identify a real-world problem and brainstorm and find solutions to your problem. You will present your final findings to your team. Luckily, we have a whole section related to the Innovation Project in this website.

Q: Do I need an engineering notebook for the competition?

A: No, it is not compulsory, however we recommend you have one where you can document your whole design process. It is really useful and can earn your team awards!

Q: How should I get started in FLL?

A: We suggest you first plan out what you will be doing, for example: setting up a shared document calendar where you can plan out whose doing what and when you want tasks to be accomplished. Here is a general outline on how your new team should get started with FLL:

  1. Plan out whose doing what
  2. Start engineering notebook
  3. Build the mission field
  4. Split the team in half and start thinking about Innovation Project while the other half starts researching for mission strategy.
  5. Build the robot and start coding, research for innovation project and keep documenting your process in the engineering notebook.
