Hello World and Welcome back!
Nowadays in the academic world, learning STEM has become a ubiquitous fashion. Particularly in the latest FLL season, we are going full STEAM ahead! Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM), inspire us to design, empower us to innovate, and most importantly, motivate us to impact the world. ?
As the debut of MASTERPIECE? challenge (scheduled on August 1) is approaching, in today’s episode of web blog, I will focus on how STEAM sharpens our mind and skills in Core Values, Robot Design, Robot Game and Innovation Project.
Core Values require us to apply teamwork and discovery to explore the challenge. Clearly revealed in FLL 2023-24, the main theme of new season will revolve around ART. The most straightforward form of art is usually displayed via image, sound and light, and the most close-by masterpiece of art right now is Vivid Sydney. Therefore, led by our coach, we attended a seminar “Feeling It: Music and Sound on Screen” organised by Vivid Ideas Exchange, where we learned about how simply changing the music can dramatically shift the meaning and resonance of a scene from a short film.
Innovation Project requires us to identify and solve problems creatively. Therefore, outside the theatre, we also conducted street interviews with passersby to get first-hand information about people’s expectations of Vivid Sydney, and the result will give us sparks when we innovate and design our robot and project.
One of the main core values of last year’s FLL season was Gracious Professionalism, shown at the Robot Game, along with the others of teamwork, inclusion, impact, fun, discovery, and innovation. Gracious Professionalism means that everyone should respect each other, even if they don’t get the score they should have.
Traditionally in First Lego League, Robot Design is to be realised through sketches or LEGO build-up, however, our team attempts to achieve Robot Design on a brand-new virtual platform. Particularly, we spent two whole days organising and archiving all the pieces of LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Set, as well as compiling our own Design Number Reference Book.
